Premiere of America’s Prom Queen

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Monday night’s premiere of ABC Family’s latest reality show, “America’s Prom Queen” proved that prom queens have to be more than just a pretty face. The ten contestants are put through various challenges each week and then, in true reality show fashion, one girl will be ‘voted off’.
The climax comes when the ten are narrowed to five finalists and viewers will vote for America’s Prom Queen. The winner will become Cosmo Girl Magazine’s official prom correspondent and guest editor for 2009! The panel of consultants/judges, also known as the PROM COMMITTEE includes Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s Jai Rodriquez, pop star Brooke Hogan of Hogan Knows Best, CosmoGIRL! magazine Editor-in-Chief Susan Schultz and reality star Theo Von.

You can catch all of the high school drama on ABC Family, Monday nights at 9:00 pm.

The Origin of the Easter Bunny

Monday, March 17th, 2008

The Christian faith celebration that commemorates the risen Saviour, Easter, comes early this year. March 23rd will bring Sunday morning sunrise services, brand-new brightly colored dresses and yes, Easter baskets full of chocolates, those gross marshmallow chicks and plastic eggs.

So, where does the tradition come from? The notion that an over-sized rabbit sneaks into homes across the country to deliver fake grass-filled baskets of goodies is absurd…unless you are five. For centuries, children have anticipated the annual arrival of the Easter Bunny.

The origins of the Easter Bunny actually have nothing to do with the Christian celebration of Easter, and actually derive from pagan lore that considers the hare and the rabbit among the most fertile animals known. They served as a symbol of the new life that the Spring season brings. Parents would tell their children that the magic hare would come bearing gifts during the Spring festival.

The symbol of the bunny began in Germany in the late 16th century and has leaked into American culture to become the iconic bearer of Spring that we know today as the Easter Bunny.

Fashion Flops at the 2008 Grammy Awards

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Hollywood’s red carpet has seen its fair share of fashion faux-pa and critics have come to expect bad fashion as much as they anticipate drop-dead gorgeous designs.carrie underwood

The 50th annual Grammy Awards would not disappoint.

Victims include superstars like Cher, Beyonce and Carrie Underwood. Taking a cue from the latest bridal and prom trend, the pin-tuck skirt, Cher’s ball-style gown was a mesh of embroidered lace and a material comparable to pleather. TMZ.com compared her look to that of a Bratz doll.

Beyonce, who usually has a bit of fashion sense, really missed her mark with a silver and sky blue sequined get-up. Likened to Glenda the Good Witch of Wizard of Oz fame, Beyonce’s poor choice of attire was accompanied by a frosted (almost white) hair-don’t.

Carrie Underwood may be Country music’s blond bombshell, but the singer’s printed chiffon Grammy gown looked like a bomb exploded. The halter neckline proved to be a good style choice for Carrie, but the print was extremely distracting.

These fashion victims are music industry icons and they will most likely recover from these bad decisions. Send the stylists on vacation for your next red-carpet venture!
