Premiering April 29th, Disney’s Prom promises a good time for the whole family. Aimee Teegarden (of Friday Night Lights fame) stars in this comedic portrayal of teens in the peak of high school excitement…the prom.
Movie Insider gives this run-down on the film:
Several intersecting stories unfold at one high school as the big dance approaches; Prom portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite. For Nova Prescott (Aimee Teegarden), it’s a battle of wills as she finds herself drawn to the guy (Thomas McDonell) who gets in the way of her perfect prom. Fellow seniors Mei (Yin Chang) and Tyler (De’Vaughn Nixon) harbor secrets, while others face all the insecurity and anticipation that surrounds one of high school’s most seminal events.

Taking a page from Avril Lavine’s style book, prom goers opt for punk-rock fashions this year! Flirty flowers and metallic tulle accents paired with a denim jacket equals the fun look shown above. The mix of these elements, blending preppy with punk, produces a style that is very different yet girly enough for prom.
Taking the formalities down a notch is key to any punk style. The addition of casual, everyday jackets in denim or leather will do the trick. The hair is also important, a ‘do that reflects that reflects your attire is a must. The spiky cut shown here is a perfect example. The entire ensemble screams ROCK STAR!

When dreaming of your high school prom, did you have a Cinderella-esque vision? Maybe a stunning ball gown with glass slippers? An entire day spent at the hair salon getting those curls pulled up just right? An appointment with a makeup artist that would transform you into the belle of the ball?
Snap out of it! Today’s prom girl tends to be less concerned with frills and fluff. We have seen a definite trend toward simple styles. And with the re-emergence of the cocktail, more prom-goers are opting for a short dress. The overwhelming popularity of printed gowns also contributes to the less formal look of most prom styles for 2010.
As for the hair, most girls are doing it themselves! And are often just sprucing up their everyday ‘do with a rhinestone barrette or a flirty flower. Makeup is applied justĀ a little heavier, and done right at home. Maybe it’s the sinking economy, times are tougher for families and skipping the salon is one more way to cut prom costs.
So tell us what you think…was your prom more casual than you envisioned? Or are the formalities still in place?

Haul Videos, the newest viral craze, is transforming your average shopaholic teenagers into mall-place moguls. It began as a simple form of fashion blogging, teens showing off their latest purchases via skype or other web video mediums. With more than 110,000 YouTube videos currently circulating, it has quickly become big business for numerous fashion brands. Teenagers reviewing products and merchandise, giving companies virtually free advertising.
Perhaps two of the phenomenon’s biggest stars are teen sisters from Tennessee, Elle and Blaire Fowler. The pair have produced videos of their fashion reviews that have been viewed 75 million times! The opinions of these gals is so popular, companies have begun delivering merchandise to their home for review via video. A watch company completely sold out of a watch purchased by the Fowler sisters within 24 hours of their review. The company received so much traffic to their website, it crashed.
Their success has landed them a photo shoot with Seventeen magazine and a pending partnership with YouTube, offering them a cut of all revenue generated from their Haul Videos. Not bad for a day at the mall!

TLC’s newest reality series takes a behind-the-scenes look at child beauty competitions. The show comes on the heels of a documentary by TLC on that very subject. Viewers were so fascinated by the show that TLC decided to spin it off into a new reality show with the same name.
“Toddlers and Tiaras” will follow a number of contestants of different ages, including kids under 5, through the pageant scene. The show’s producers say, “The series showcases the traditional elements of child pageants, jam-packed with stage moms and dads, hair extensions, spray tanning, makeup, and glitter. It features extremely non-traditional and modern aspects of the pageant scene, from girls entering the competitive landscape with less makeup and a more natural look, to pageants with boys mixed into the competition.”
The most recent installment of Toddlers and Tiaras featured a gown by Tiffany Designs. The gorgeous lime/turq/black combination can be found on our website, click here.
The TLC website describes the new show:
On any given weekend, on stages across the country, little girls and boys parade around wearing makeup, false eyelashes, spray tans and fake hair to be judged on their beauty, personality and costumes. Toddlers and Tiaras follows families on their quest for sparkly crowns, big titles, and lots of cash.
The preparation is intense as it gets down to the final week before the pageant. From hair and nail appointments, to finishing touches on gowns and suits, to numerous coaching sessions or rehearsals, each child preps for their performance. But once at the pageant, it’s all up to the judges and drama ensues when every parent wants to prove that their child is beautiful.
Some call it exploitation, a mother living out her own dreams through a toddler too young to disagree. Or perhaps it is fun, just like recreational soccer leagues or cheer camp. Agree with it or not, Pageantry is a $5 billion a year biz and can actually bring contestants excellent benefits, like scholarship money, new cars and family vacations. You can catch Toddlers and Tiaras Tuesday nights at 10:00 on TLC.

The hottest prom hairstyles for 2008 center on sexy starlets from the past. Today’s tinsel town topliners have been influenced by the hair, attire and accessories of old. Now, you too can steal the style of big screen sirens for prom night!
In the 1920’s, Josephine Baker lit up stages with her legendary voice and unmistakable style. Shiny waves and controlled curls compose her sensual, sleek look. Halle Berry and Kate Bosworth are among those who have been inspired by Josephine’s glamorous guise.
Hair in the 1940’s brought brushed waves like those of big-screen vixen Veronica Lake. Veronica’s loose curls and lavish volume gave smooth and sultry a brand new face. Stars like Jessica Alba and Jessica Simpson have adapted the look and made it all their own.
With the 1960’s came a flood of blonde bombshells like French movie star Brigitte Bardot. Her elastic, loose ringlets were playful and inviting. Silver screen superstar Angelina Jolie’s latest look reflects Brigitte’s vintage vibe.
The 1980’s were lead by teased roots and plenty of volume. No one did it better than fashion icon Cindy Crawford. On the runway, the big-hair era came alive. Cindy’s soft, wispy locks captivated the world of fashion and her signature style soon became commonplace. The look can be found on red carpets around the world, and on singer/actress Beyonce Knowles.
So, This is your inspiration… Prom 2008 style is a throw-back to the divas from way back.

Have you decided yet on your gown, shoes, jewelry, or a HAIRSTYLE for prom? Having the perfect hairstyle for prom will turn any ordinary look into a glamorous one! Knowing the right hairstyle to fit your dress can be such a stressful feeling, but the first thing I always ask myself is, if my dress is elegant? Fun? Classy? Chic? Sassy? or Simple? Once I make a decision I contemplate if my hair should be up or down depending on the style of the dress. I would consider the details of the dress, like does it have small straps? Is it strapless? A halter top? Or does it have an open back? These are just a few questions you should ask yourself before making a decision on a hairstyle.
Knowing if the dress is elegant or simple can narrow your options down to a particular style, then you can search on the internet or look in a magazine to find a hairstyle; you should have an idea for your hairstylist in advanced. One option I would definitely avoid is waiting to the last minute to decide on a hairstyle and counting on a hairstylist to make a decision for you. A decision that might ruin your night. Prom is an exciting event for all High School students and one of the best times you will experience in life. Be assertive with your style, and you are sure to keep all eyes on you!
